Science of the Aging Brain: New research reveals lifestyle choices impact cognitive wellness.

New research shows that living an active life, both physically and mentally, is good for the brain. This is the type of lifestyle that people are able able to experience here at RiverWoods. Physical fitness and social activities abound at our community. These activities are also easier to enjoy- especially when you don't have the traditional burdens of home ownership.

RiverWoods recently hosted an informative discussion presented by two neuropsychologists from the Center for Cognitive Wellness, a private practice located in Burlington, MA. Malissa Kraft, Psy.D, ABPP-CN and Maureen O'Connor, Psy.D, ABPP-CN have both studied the connection between lifestyle, attitude and the structural and cognitive changes in our brains as we age.

During the question and answer session, someone asked about the effectiveness of various brain health activities and the many brain health products on the market. View Dr. O'Connor's answer to the question in the video clip below.

The Center for Cognitive Wellness has also compiled a handy list of thing you can do to help maintain a healthy brain. The following list was used as a handout at the recent presentation at RiverWoods. As with any major change to your lifestyle- be sure to consult with your physician to determine a best plan of action for optimal overall health.

2.) Make sure blood pressure and Cholesterol are well controlled.
